eSports: Club Atlético de Madrid launches a team in collaboration with Movistar Riders

Club Atlético de Madrid (LaLiga Santander) has launched "Atletico de Madrid eSports", an eSports team that will participate in the eLaLiga Santander, LaLiga's official championship on the FIFA 20 game, according to the Spanish club on 13/02/2020. The launch was made in collaboration with Movistar Riders, a Spanish eSports team created in 2017 by Telefonica (telecommunications), a partner of the Spanish club.

Andoni 'Payo' Martin will represent the club in the 2019-20 eLaLiga Santander, a competition which is divided into two stages:
• A first stage with five qualifying tournaments (the first began on 14/02/2020).
• A second "grand final", which will feature the 16 best players from the first stage.

The competition, organised by LaLiga on FIFA since March 2018 (initially under the name "McDonald's Virtual LaLiga eSports"), is broadcast on LaLiga's Twitch channel, as well as on the competition's website and twitter account.

33 clubs from LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank are taking part in the 2019-20 eLaLiga Santander (compared to 10 clubs in 2017-18, then 17 in 2018-19).
