Portugal: League and clubs support Moussa Marega (FC Porto) victim of racial abuse

"FC Porto strongly condemns this racist behaviour which should be duly punished," said the Portuguese club, a few hours after their Malian international striker Moussa Marega was the target of racist abuse during Vitória de Guimarães - FC Porto (1-2) at the Stadium D. After scoring his team's second goal, the Franco-Malian player raised one of the stadium seats thrown from the stands, earning him a yellow card. Moussa Marega, born on 14/04/1991 in Les Ulis (Essonne, FRA), was the target of racist abuse and monkey chants and then decided to leave the pitch, despite the intervention of his teammates, his coach Sérgio Conceiçao and his opponents who tried to restrain him.

"Liga Portugal (Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional) does not and will never condone acts of racism, xenophobia, discrimination or any other act that calls into question the dignity of footballers, officials or simply human beings," said the Portuguese Professional League on 16/02/2020.
