Germany: a total of €845m in advertising/sponsorship revenue for the 18 Bundesliga clubs in 2018-19

€845.443m is the sum of the combined advertising and sponsorship revenues of the 18 Bundesliga clubs for the 2018-19 season, according to the DFL in its 2020 Economic Report published on 18/02/2020. This total is down 3% compared to 2017-18 (€871.666m).

"Although the clubs' ticket sales remained relatively high, absolute revenue changes according to stadium capacity. Advertising and merchandising can be affected in a similar way if clubs with lots of members ("mitglieder"), a broad fan base and a large number of sponsors and partners are relegated, for instance," explained the German body.

• Clubs relegated at the end of the 2017-18 season: Hamburger SV and 1. FC Köln.
• Clubs promoted in 2018-19: Fortuna Düsseldorf and 1. FC Nürnberg.

The average commercial revenue for clubs in the German top flight amounted to €47m in 2018-19, compared to €48.4m in 2017-18. "The total revenue of the Bundesliga clubs broke the €4bn barrier for the first time, rising by 5.4% to €4.02bn," said Christian Seifert, CEO of the DFL.
