Refereeing: "It is high time to change the offside rule" (Arsène Wenger, FIFA)

"A player should no longer be signaled offside if at least one part of his body is aligned with the last defender, even if other parts of his body are in front. It is high time to change the rule," said Arsène Wenger (FRA), FIFA's chief of global football development, at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Berlin (GER) on 18/02/2020.

Arsène Wenger's proposal is expected to be considered by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) at its 134^th Annual General Meeting in Belfast (NIR) on Saturday 29/02/2020 (agenda available to download). If adopted by a three-quarter majority (FIFA has four votes and the four UK associations - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - each have one), the new rule could become effective on 01/06/2020, just before Euro 2020.
