Euro 2020: Italian Federation selects Rome's Olympic Stadium

The FIGC (Italian Football Federation) has selected the Olympic Stadium of Rome (72,700 seats) as only bid to host several matches of the Euro 2020, which will be held across 13 cities in 13 countries affiliated with UEFA (Union of European Football Associations). The announcement was made on 09/04/2014.

"Rome meets all the requirements, not only for its universal role but for its historic and cultural heritage; there is also the geographic position...and the fact that 57 years ago the basis for a European (Economic) Union - the Treaty of Rome — was precisely born here. The Stadio Olimpico hosted the Champions League final in 2009. We will nevertheless make some necessary improvements", said Giancarlo Abete, the president of the FIGC.

The Federation considered but ultimately discarded Milan's Giuseppe-Meazza Stadium (80,000 seats), which will host the final of the Champions League in 2016.
