United Kingdom: Amazon Prime Video subscribers up by 35% in 2019

The number of subscribers to the VoD platform Prime Video (belonging to the US e-commerce group Amazon) in the UK is up 35% for the year 2019 (+11.5% in the fourth quarter of 2019 alone) according to data published by the British audience measurement institute BARB (Broadcasters' Audience Research Board) on 20/02/2020. 7.14 million UK households have subscribed to Prime Video as of 31/12/2019 compared to 5.28 million as of 31/12/2018.

Amazon experienced "record subscriptions" in the United Kingdom to Prime Video on Tuesday 03/12 and Wednesday 04/12/2019 during the exclusive broadcast of the games on Matchday 15 of the 2019-20 Premier League season (two games were also broadcast on 05/12/2019), according to the US e-commerce group on 05/12/2019. Amazon, which has broadcasting rights in the UK for 20 Premier League matches (two matchdays) per season over the 2019-2022 cycle, also exclusively broadcast Matchday 19 (boxing day) on 26/12 and 27/12/2019.
