Qatar 2022: "With 1,000 days to go, Qatar is on track to amaze" (Gianni Infantino, FIFA)

"With 1,000 days to go (until the opening match of the 2022 World Cup on 21/11/2022), Qatar stands where no other host did before. Qatar wants to amaze the world and is on track to achieve it," said Gianni Infantino (ITA-SUI), president of FIFA, on 25/02/2020.

It is worth noting that never before has a country been awarded the right to host a World Cup so far in advance: with 1000 days to go, it has been 3,372 days (9 years, 2 months and 23 days) since Qatar was awarded the hosting of the 2022 World Cup (on 02/12/2010).

"The FIFA World Cup 2022 will be a breakthrough from a social and cultural perspective. It will open the doors of this football-mad region, offering a new perspective to locals and foreigners, bringing people together and serving as a tool for common understanding," added Gianni Infantino.
