eSports: $1.1bn in revenue forecast for 2020 (+15.7%) and $1.55bn for 2023 (Newzoo)

"Global eSports revenues will grow to $1.1bn (€1bn on 27/02/2020) in 2020, a year-on-year growth of +15.7%, up from $950.6m (€848m on 31/12/2019) in 2019," announced the Dutch consulting firm Newzoo in its "Global eSports Market Report 2020" published on 26/02/2020. For 2023, Newzoo forecasts €1.55m in revenue generated by eSports (+14.9%).

"In 2020, $822.4m (€756m) in revenues - or three-quarters (74.8%) of the total market - will come from media rights and sponsorship (+17.2%)," said the agency based in Amsterdam (NED). For 2020, Newzoo estimates that sponsorship will represent $636.9m, or 57.9% of the sector's annual revenue.

Behind sponsorship, Newzoo forecasts revenues from media rights of $185.4m, merchandising and ticketing of $121.7m, video game publishers' expenses with independent organisers of $116.3m, digital/in-game sales attached to a team/player of $21.5m and streaming revenues of $18.2m (see below).
