Tickets: attending an MLS match cost on average €32.40 in 2013

The average price of a ticket to a Major League Soccer match was €32.40 in 2013. Ticket prices increased by 41% from 2011 (when the average was €19).

The increase in ticket prices is partly due to the reduced capacity of MLS stadiums, which had an average of 29,200 seats in 2014. "Stadiums are a key factor of success in our development strategy. When the league started back in 1996, all our clubs were playing in stadiums that were primarily dedicated to American football. That has dramatically changed. Since 1999, 14 stadiums were renovated or built to be dedicated to soccer only," Dan Courtemanche, executive vice-president of MLS, explained to News Tank on 10/03/2014.

MLS is on average (see the table below) more expensive than the MLB (Major League Baseball, €19.90), but less expensive than the NFL (National Football League, €58.70), NHL (National Hockey League, €43.90) and the NBA (National Basketball Association, €36.80).
