Covid-19: all sports competitions in Italy suspended until Friday 03/04/2020

All sporting events throughout Italy are suspended from Tuesday 10/03 to Friday 03/04/2020. "There is no reason for sporting events to continue, we have taken measures in this respect," said Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Italy on 09/03/2020, announcing the extension of the measures activated on 08/03/2020 in Lombardy (Milan) and in 14 other provinces in the north of the country due to the Coronavirus epidemic (Covid-19), to the whole territory.

These measures provide for a travel ban except for "proven professional reasons" or "serious family or health needs" in a country where the epidemic that began in China at the end of December 2019 has already affected more than 9,000 people and caused more than 460 deaths as of 09/03/2020.

The decision to stop all sports events for 25 days was unanimously validated, before the head of the Italian Government's decree "#iorestoacasa" ("I am staying at home", see below), by the CONI Council (17 votes out of 17), on 09/03/2020.

The FIGC convened an extraordinary federal council to discuss the situation on Tuesday 10/03/2020, at 14:00 CET.
