ARJEL: 29% increase in football betting (€ 154.9m) for the first quarter of 2014

Online football bets increased 29% (that is, €34.5m) in the first quarter (January, February, March) of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013, according to the quarterly market analysis of online games by ARJEL (French Regulatory Authority of Online Games), which was published on 14/04/2014. The total was €154.9m for the first three months of 2014.

Ligue 1 is the competition that generates the most bets: €26.3m from January to March 2014. The French League Cup saw the greatest increase in bets (up 308%) compared to the first quarter of 2013.

Total sports bets of €254m were placed during the first quarter of 2014; this was an increase of 25%.

Peak activity was recorded the week of 03/03 to 09/03/2014, with 187,000 active player accounts. This was the week of the friendly match between France and the Netherlands (2-0), held on 05/03/2014.
