DNCG activity report: "4th consecutive year of losses" (Frédéric Thiriez, LFP)

"For the 4th consecutive year, the 40 clubs in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, taken in aggregate, have had losses; the net loss amounted to €39m for the financial year ending on 30/06/2013", said Frédéric Thiriez, president of LFP (Professional Football League), in a writeup of the DNCG's (National Directorate of Management Control) activity report and of the individual clubs' financial reports for 2012-13, released on 15/04/2014.

In its report, the DNCG assessed the losses of French professional clubs at €39m for 2012-13, compared to €108m a year earlier. Ligue 1 clubs recorded a cumulative loss of €17.6m. Twenty-eight, including Paris Saint-Germain, had losses for the year ending 30/06/2013.

"The end of DIC (Collective Image Rights) costs €50m each year and payroll and social security expenses are higher in France than elsewhere in Europe", said Thiriez. "While most of our clubs already made extreme cuts in spending, the impact of the 75% tax, estimated at €44m for each of the next two seasons, clouds projections. "
