"We recommend that all international matches originally scheduled for March and April 2020 be postponed until they can take place in a safe and secure environment, both for the players and the general public, in order to avoid any unnecessary health risk and potential sporting injustices. The final decision in this respect rests with the organizers of the respective competitions or the national member federations concerned in the event of friendly matches," stated FIFA on 13/03/2020.

"In view of the current situation regarding Covid-19, the Bureau of the FIFA Council decided that the general rules which normally require clubs to make their players available to national teams will not apply to the next international windows in March/April," added the international federation.

Qualifying matches for the 2022 World Cup have already been postponed in Asia and South America following discussions between FIFA and the confederations concerned (AFC and CONMEBOL), said FIFA.

"Adequate solutions will be found to allow matches to take place in good time" (FIFA)
