News Tank and KantarSport, a leading research institute focused on key actors in the sports world, released a joint study entitled "Comparing Broadcasting Offers in 5 Countries" on 16/04/2014. The paper examines how football is broadcast on television in the five major European championship countries: England, Germany, Spain, Italy, and France.

The study looks at the each country's broadcasters for its premier national division and for the Champions League, comparing the cost of rights, subscription offers and their prices, and measures of viewers' interest for football on television. It is clear from this analysis that the TV football market is relatively homogeneous in Europe, with premium content concentrated among pay channels.

Pay media outlets are currently laying out more than €3.7mb for rights to Big 5 leagues every season, which amounts to nearly 95% of the leagues' audiovisual revenues. Only Germany and Spain still offer free live championship broadcasts.
