Covid-19: an impact of €3.45-4bn on the European Top 5 if the 2019-20 season does not resume (KPMG)

Assuming no more matches are played during the 2019-20 season in the Top 5 European Leagues (Premier League, LaLiga Santander, Bundesliga, Serie A TIM and Ligue 1 Conforama), the impact of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on their revenues would amount to a total of between €3.45bn and €4bn, according to KPMG Football Benchmark, a business intelligence platform dedicated to football belonging to the international network of audit and consulting firms, which published a study entitled "What are the major impacts of Coronavirus on the game?" on 17/03/2020.

The Premier League is the European league that would suffer the most from the health crisis that has already caused more than 10,050 deaths worldwide as of 20/03/2020, with an estimated loss of revenue of between €1.15-1.25bn. The Ligue 1 Conforama, the least-affected league in the Top 5, is expected to lose between €300-400m in revenue. Revenues from TV rights alone would represent around 60% of the total loss generated by the pandemic.

The European Top 5 has 501 matches still to be played between now and the end of the 2019-20…
