Covid-19: finishing Ligue 1 and 2 is "vital for the future of the clubs and French football" (LFP)

"The priority is to finish the Ligue 1 Conforama and Domino's Ligue 2. Given the sporting and economic stakes involved, this priority is vital for the future of the clubs and French football," stated the LFP on 17/03/2020.

The LFP communicated during the end of its board meeting (by telephone) following UEFA's decisions on the consequences of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on the organisation of football competitions at the European level. The European Confederation announced the postponement of Euro 2020 by one year - from Friday 11/06/2021 to Sunday 11/07/2021 - to allow the currently suspended national leagues and European Cups to be continued until their completion.

"The priority is to finish domestic competitions while maintaining the right balance with European Cups and national team matches. As UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin pointed out, the current crisis must be overcome collectively through solidarity-based decisions.
