Covid-19: "Decision to postpone Euro 2020 testament to collective decision-making" (A. Agnelli, ECA)

"Today's decision to postpone the UEFA Euro 2020 (rescheduled from 11/06 to 11/07/2021) is testament to the unity and collaborative efforts of professional game stakeholders to engage in collective decision-making in the best interest of the game," said Andrea Agnelli, chairman of the ECA and member of the UEFA executive committee, on 17/03/2020.

The European body made the decision to reschedule Euro 2020 until 2021 in response to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which has already killed more than 8,273 people worldwide as of 18/03/2020. UEFA held a videoconference with the ECA, European Leagues and FIFPro, then with the 55 national member associations, before its executive committee meeting on Tuesday 17/03/2020.

"Europe is facing its biggest challenge in a generation, one which is impacting all levels of society including football. The challenge to our game is massive and as leaders we have a responsibility to do all we can to protect its long-term well-being by mitigating the impact of the virus," said Andrea Agnelli.
