Covid-19/LFP: "It is not foreseeable that we will pay the upcoming installments" (M. Saada, Canal+)

"It is not foreseeable that we will pay the upcoming installments, even though due to the suspension of the Ligue 1 Conforama, no matches can be played and, consequently, will not be broadcast on our antennas," wrote Maxime Saada, chairman and CEO of Canal+ group, in a letter to the LFP, according to the French Sports daily L'Équipe on 29/03/2020.

Canal+'s next €110m payment deadline is set for 05/04/2020 (then €85m on 05/06/2020), while the LFP's board of directors unanimously decided to suspend the Ligue 1 Conforama and Domino's Ligue 2 "until further notice" on 13/03/2020. There are still 101 Ligue 1 matches to be played: the last 10 matchdays, plus RC Strasbourg - Paris Saint-Germain match, scheduled for 07/03/2020 and postponed by prefectoral decree due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic which has caused more than 2,600 deaths in France as of 30/03/2020.

A total of €280m in TV rights are still to be collected by the LFP from the broadcasters Canal+ and beIN Sports for the 2019-20 season, according to L'Équipe on 28/06/2020.
