Covid-19/Tokyo 2020: new dates from 23/07 to 08/08/2021 approved by the IOC and Japan

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), in conjunction with the Tokyo Organising Committee, have announced that the next Olympic Games in Tokyo will take place from 23/07 to 08/08/2021, according to world body on 30/03/2020.

According to the IOC, "this decision was taken based on three main considerations supported by all the International Summer Olympic Sports Federations and all the National Olympic Committees:
• To protect the health of the athletes and everyone involved, and to support the containment of the COVID-19 virus.
• To safeguard the interests of the athletes and of Olympic sport.
• The global international sports calendar."

Thomas Bach (GER), president of the IOC and Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, reached the conclusion that the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games "must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community," said the IOC and the organising committee for the 2020 Olympic Games on 24/03/2020.
