Covid-19/MotoGP: a virtual race involving professional riders held on 29/03/2020

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, several MotoGP riders took part in a virtual race at the Mugello circuit (ITA) on Sunday 29/03/2020.

Maverick Viñales (ESP, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP), Fabio Quartararo (FRA, Petronas Yamaha SRT) and 2019 World Champion Marc Márquez (FRA, Repsol Honda Team) competed over six laps to decide the first ever winner of the virtual race (Marc Marquez) which was preceded by a five-minute qualifying session to determine the starting grid, according to Dorna Sports, the organiser of the MotoGP circuit, on 26/03/2020.

Fans were able to follow the event on the websites motogp.com and esport.motogp.com, "selected TV broadcasters, as well as across social media platforms including YouTube (via the MotoGP and MotoGP eSport channels), MotoGP eSport Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook (via both the MotoGP and MotoGP eSport pages)," added the organisers of the competition. The Italian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on 31/05/2020.
