Covid-19/Belgium: Pro League's board of directors proposes "current ranking as the final ranking"

"The board of directors is formulating a unanimous opinion to the general assembly (convened on Wednesday 15/04/2020) not to resume the competitions of the 2019-20 season and to accept the current Jupiler Pro League ranking as the final ranking (subject to the decisions of the licensing committee)," announced the Belgian professional football league on 02/04/2020.

The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) had previously announced on 19/03/2020 that all the matches of the championship were postponed until after 30/04/2020, due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people in Belgium as of 03/04/2020.

At the time of the suspension of the Jupiler Pro League, Club Brugge were at the top of the standings ahead of Gent and Charleroi after 29 (out of 30) regular season fixtures, ahead of the playoffs, which feature a mini league with two-legged ties between the top six teams of the regular season. Club Brugge would therefore be crowned Belgian champions.
