Rugby: "Discussions have taken place regarding a global club tournament every four years" (EPCR)

"Discussions have already taken place on an official level between EPCR and its shareholders regarding a global club tournament which could complement the Heineken Champions Cup and Challenge Cup and which could take place once every four years," said the European body on 06/04/2020.

"World Rugby must create a World Cup for professional clubs that would take place every year, outside the traditional Rugby World Cup windows," said Bernard Laporte, president of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) in an interview with the French rugby newspaper Midi Olympique on 06/04/2020. The FFR president is proposing to invite 20 teams: the semi-finalists of the Top 14 and Gallagher Premiership Rugby, the top six from Super Rugby, the top four from the Guinness Pro14, as well as the champions of Japan and the United States.
