The proposed £150m (€186m) plan envisions expanding capacity from 45,000 to 58,500 seats. Completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2018. The club's goal is to generate the same matchday revenue as its rivals in the Premier League. The British architecture firm KSS is designing the expansion. It previously designed Le Havre's Stade Océane (cap. 25,000), the latest renovation of Stamford Bridge (cap. 43,000, Chelsea FC), and the Basketball Arena and Aquatic Centre for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Obtaining permission to renovate Anfield is subject to the buying up and the demolition of 90 properties adjacent to the stadium. "We have now completed buying all the properties around ground so things will start happening quickly at last, apologies," Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool, tweeted on 22/04/2014.
