eSports: $1.059bn in revenue predicted for 2020 and $1.6bn for 2023 (Newzoo, revised forecast)

Global eSports revenues will rise to $1.059bn in 2020, an increase of 11.4% compared to $950.6m in 2019, according to the Dutch consulting firm Newzoo on 15/04/2020, which, due to Covid-19, has revised its "Global eSports Market Report 2020" initially published on 26/02/2020. At the time of the first publication, Newzoo anticipated 2020 revenues of €1.1bn.

For 2023, the consulting firm is now forecasting $1.598bn in eSports revenues (compared to $1.556bn initially forecast).

"Looking at the specific impact of Covid-19, we revised our 2020 forecast for merchandise and tickets downward from $121.7m to $106.5m. We also downwardly revised media rights and sponsorship forecasts for this year - from $185.4m to $176.2m and $636.9m to $614.9m, respectively," said Newzoo.
