The Czech and Polish federations withdrew their candidacy for Euro 2020 on 23/04/2014. The event will be held in 13 cities of 13 countries affiliated with UEFA (Union of European Football Associations).

"We felt that our chances of obtaining the organisation of this tournament were minimal," said Zbigniew Boniek, president of the Polish Federation. They had made applications for Warsaw and Chorzow to become hosts but since the federation co-hosted Euro 2012 with Ukraine, they believed their chances were limited as such little time will have passed since the last European Championship.

"The decision of the mayor is a loss to Prague and the Czech Republic, but especially for all the fans of Czech football," said the Czech Federation, at the announcement of its withdrawal. The city of Prague had refused to support the project, which would have included the renovation of a stadium to accommodate four matches of Euro 2020.

  • Turkey has nominated Atatürk Olympic Stadium (78,000 seats) in Istanbul to host the semifinals and finals of Euro 2020.
