Covid-19/UEFA: €70m in advance payments from Euro 2020 profits to be given to 676 European clubs

€70m in immediate payments to 676 clubs belonging to UEFA's 55 national member associations as part of the Euro 2020 profit-sharing scheme (postponed until 2021), was announced by UEFA's executive committee during a videoconference on 23/04/2020.

The decision was made " in light of the current crisis and the financial difficulties many clubs are facing across Europe," said UEFA.

These payments - part of the minimum €200m to be distributed to the clubs that employ players participating in the Euro qualifiers and finals - were originally due to be made at the end of the Euro play-offs that were scheduled for 26 and 31/03/2020, but which had to be postponed (see below).

According to UEFA, "given the challenges faced by clubs that are having to meet ongoing financial commitments while seeing revenues dry up during the COVID-19 lockdowns, payments will now be made immediately as follows:
• €50m will go to clubs having released players for the 39 national teams not involved in the European Qualifiers play-offs.
• €17.7m will go to clubs having released players for the 16 national teams…
