Covid-19/Athletics: cancellation of the European Championships scheduled in Paris from 25-30/08/2020

The Paris 2020 Organizing Committee and the French Athletics Federation (FFA) cancel the 2020 European Athletics Championships which were to take place from 25 to 30/08/2020 at Stade Charléty (19,094 seats) in Paris (XIIIth), indicate the authorities after an exceptional Executive Committee, on 23/04/2020. "The decision to cancel was driven by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the associated risks linked to the current situation, which are far from being under control, as well as the existing ban on mass gatherings in France," said European Athletics.

According to the organisers, "unfortunately, the conditions are not yet in place to organise an event of this scale while ensuring: 
• the ability to protect the health of athletes, spectators and all accredited persons (members of delegations, volunteers, staff, service providers) from health risks;
• the participation of all member associations in the context of the limitation of the duration of access to and movement within the Schengen area;
