Belgium: Federation formalises Brussels' application as host city for Euro 2020

RBFA (Royal Belgian Football Association) formalised Brussels' application on 24/04/2014 to host the Euro 2020, which will be held in 13 cities in 13 countries affiliated with UEFA (Union of European Football Associations). The application was made in collaboration with the City of Brussels, the Brussels-Capital region and the federal government.

RBFA and Brussels want four matches, including the opening match, to be played in Belgium. The Belgian capital wants to build a new stadium to replace Roi Baudouin Stadium. The former mayor of Brussels, Freddy Thielemans, has announced an agreement for the construction of a 60,000 seat stadium without a running track in the parking lot C of Roi Baudouin Stadium (50,000 seats, formerly the stadium of Heysel) on 02/12/2013. The project would cost €300m. The land, although in Flanders, belongs to the city of Brussels.
