Covid-19 / Liverpool FC: completion of Anfield extension postponed to summer 2023 at the earliest

"The proposed expansion of the Anfield Road stand project paused due to impact COVID-19 lockdown delays are having on the construction and build programme. The complex build must be completed between seasons and therefore the impact is at least a 12-month pause. Earliest target for project completion is summer 2023 (original target was summer 2022),", announced Liverpool FC (Premier League) on 28/04/2020.

After refitting one of the two main stands in 2016 to add around 9,000 seats, Liverpool FC wants to increase the total capacity of its Anfield enclosure to more than 61,000 seats, providing the Anfield Road grandstand with 7,000 additional seats. To do this, the club planned to submit its request for a building permit in the spring of 2020 and then carry out the work during the 2020 and 2021 inter-seasons to ensure final delivery in the summer of 2022. A schedule that is now untenable due to the coronavirus pandemic.
