Germany: Horst Seehofer, Interior Minister, in favour restarting the Bundesliga in May

"I find the schedule proposed by the German league (DFL) plausible and I support the restart in May. But for me it is also clear that there should be no extra privileges for the league (Bundesliga)," said German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, also in charge of sports, to the German Sunday newspaper Bild am Sonntag on 03/05/2020.

According to Horst Seehofer, the basic condition for a resumption of professional football in Germany is that the increase in the number of tests for the virus in sports does not cause bottlenecks in the public health system.

A political decision on the resumption behind closed doors of the first two German divisions is expected on Wednesday 06/05/2020 after a meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Minister Presidents of the Länder (the 16 German states). The DFL is hoping to resume with matches behind closed doors by the end of May.
