End of 2019-20 Ligue 1 season: "A political and democratic error" (J-M. Aulas, Olympique Lyonnais)

"I've consulted a lot over the last two days with politicians, footballers and lawyers. First there was a political error. Why rush to say that it is difficult to play before August? When we don't know if the other countries will have the same judgement... We had to take a political tour of the other four big leagues. Sporting France is like corporate France, it's competitive. We shouldn't rush into politics if we're not sure that others won't do the same," said Jean-Michel Aulas, president of Olympique Lyonnais (Ligue 1 Conforama), to the French website lequipe.fr on 04/05/2020.

The Lyon president reacted to the decision of the bureau of the LFP, and then of its board of directors, on 30/04/2020, to declare the end of the 2019-20 Ligue 1 Conforama and Domino's Ligue 2 seasons. According to the Ligue 1 ranking endorsed by the League, Olympique Lyonnais is in seventh place and therefore will not qualify for a European Cup in 2020-21.
