Serie A: CVC Capital Partners make an offer to manage TV rights over 10 years from 2021-22 (media)

The Luxembourg investment fund CVC Capital Partners has made an offer for the management of the national and international media rights to the Serie A, starting with the 2021-22 season, for a period of 10 years, according to the Italian daily newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore on 05/05/2020. The sale of these rights would be managed by a newly created company (Newco).

CVC Capital Partners has nearly $80bn (€74bn) worth of assets under management and is also in exclusive negotiations to take a stake in Six Nations Ltd, the commercial company that owns the rights to the 6 Nations Tournament (see below).

The contracts for Serie A TIM'S national (held by Sky Italia and DAZN for €973m per season) and international (held by IMG and RAI for €371m per season) TV rights both expire at the end of the 2020-21 season (2018-2021 cycle). The Swiss agency Infront is the exclusive advisor to Lega Serie A for the sale of its media rights for the 2015-2021 cycle.
