France renounces Euro 2020, but is a candidate to host the 2019 Women's World Cup

"We are a candidate for organising the Women's World Cup in 2019. All items are ready and we will file an application with FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association)," said Noël Le Graët, president of the FFF (French Football Federation), during the presentation of the match calendar and the stadiums of Euro 2016 at the headquarters of the Federation on 25/04/2014.

"I welcome this bid to host the Women's World Cup," said Najat Belkacem-Vallaud, Minister of Women's Rights, Urban Affairs, Youth and Sports, present at the FFF.

However, the president of the federation also announced that France would renounce its candidacy for the male Euro 2020 to be held in 13 cities in 13 UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) affiliated countries: "It's normal, it is a measure of solidarity towards other European countries, as France is hosting Euro 2016."

FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) launched the bidding process for the 2019 Women's World Cup on 06/03/2014. Federations interested in becoming hosts have to make themselves known before 15/04/2014…
