"Even if the decision of the Ligue de Football Professionnel to stop its competitions were contrary to UEFA's guidelines, the risk of a sanction would be extremely limited. Assuming there is no official order from the French government justifying the halt of the competitions, in any case, the decision of the LFP is based on public health grounds. This is enough for UEFA not to sanction the League," said Mathieu Maisonneuve, professor of law at the University of Aix-Marseille (FRA), on 06/05/2020, about the possibility of UEFA appealing against the LFP's decision.

Mathieu Maisonneuve participated in a News Tank Football Webinar titled "The end of the 2019-20 season: sporting stakes and legal risks for French football", with Charles Amson, a lawyer at the Paris Bar Association and specialist in Sports Law, and François Klein, also a lawyer at the Paris Bar Association and member of the LFP's joint appeals committee as well as that of the Court of Arbitration for Sport since 2003.
