France: 3rd in the 2019-20 Ligue 2, AC Ajaccio wants into a Ligue 1 expanded to 22 clubs in 2020-21

"If a format with 22 clubs were to be selected for the 2020-21 season of Ligue 1, a place for AC Ajaccio (Domino's Ligue 2) should be provided there," stated the Corsican club on 13/05/2020.

Third in the 2019-20 Ligue 2 ranking which was stopped on Matchday 28 by the LFP's board of directors on 30/04/2020, AC Ajaccio believes that in the absence of play-offs for a possible third promotion slot to Ligue 1, to which the club was virtually qualified, this position allows it to claim a place in the first division if it were to expand to 22 clubs.

"It should be recalled that for decades, the principle of the regulations provided for three automatic relegations from Ligue 1 compensated by three promotions from Ligue 2 clubs. A few years ago an exception that was introduced to this principle, by the creation of the system play-offs thus granting the club ranked 18th in Ligue 1 the possibility to save their place and consequently imposing a constraint on the club ranked third in Ligue 2.
