France: FFF executive committee overturns LFP decision, imposes a Ligue 2 with 20 clubs in 2020-21

"The two regulatory demotions planned for the 2019-20 season are maintained and the Ligue 2 Championship will remain at 20 clubs for the 2020-21 season," announced the FFF after a meeting of its executive committee on 27/05/2020.

"Meeting today, the executive committee of the French Football Federation has decided, under article 199 of the general regulations of the FFF, to reform the decision of the general assembly of the LFP dated 20/05/2020 adopting a new Ligue 2 format with 22 clubs, without demotions (for 2019-20), for the 2020-21 season," said the FFF.

"In accordance with the board of directors' decision of 30/04/2020, the LFP general assembly has decided on the format of Ligue 2 for the 2020-21 season. After an electronic vote (57% for), it was decided that the Ligue 2 Championship will be played with 22 clubs in the 2020-21 season," announced the French Professional Football League, on 20/05/2020.
