NTF Webinar - TV rights: "Mediapro must acquire the 2020-21 season of European cups" (P. Bailly)

"One of the keys for Mediapro to be able to take off in France is to manage to acquire the last season of rights for the European cups from RMC Sport (2020-21; €350m). These rights are also important for Canal+, because otherwise, the next season may be a bit poor (for Canal+) even with two Ligue 1 matches, potentially behind closed doors, and without the Sunday evening poster. It is central for Canal+ as for Mediapro, and it (those rights) are no longer a challenge for Altice (RMC Sport’s parent company). Afterwards, as in any good game of poker, it is the one who has the most nerves and who negotiates the longest who will win," said Philippe Bailly, president of the consulting firm specializing in media NPA Conseil, during the Webinar "Crise sanitaire : quel impact sur le marché des droits TV ?"
