Deloitte: European football market represented €28.9bn in 2018-19 (+2%)

Revenues from the European football market for the 2018-19 season reached €28.9bn, a growth of 2% compared to 2017-18 (€28.4bn), according to the 2020 edition of the "Annual Review of Football Finance" produced by the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, the UK-based audit and consultancy firm, published on 11/06/2020 (document available to download).

"2018-19 growth was driven by the commencement of the new three-year broadcast cycle for UEFA club competitions. Substantial uplifts to media rights values meant almost €700m of additional prize money was distributed to clubs through UEFA competitions. Revenue increases, whilst benefitting all in absolute terms, have not resolved the longstanding challenge of polarisation as relative gaps widen," added the Sports Business Group.

The 98 clubs in the European Top 5 (Premier League, Bundesliga, LaLiga Santander, Serie A TIM and Ligue 1 Conforama) generated total revenues of €17bn in 2018-19, an increase of 9% (+€1.4bn) compared to 2017-18. They accounted for 59% of European football revenues, up from 55% in the previous season.
