Sky Italia: personalised sports channels to be tested on certain subscribers

The pay-TV operator Sky Italia will test the personalisation of its channels for the broadcasting of sports events, in particular the Serie A TIM, Premier League and Champions League, according to digitaltvnews on 09/06/2020. This test will be offered to certain subscribers chosen by Sky Italia.

The pay-TV operator will work in collaboration with the Australian company Linius Technologies to implement this service. The objective for the broadcaster is to test user engagement and response to customized TV channels, facilitate future business modeling, and provide information on future product design. Linius Technologies is charging $39,250 (€34,700) for this trial service, according to digitaltvnews.

96% of subscribers to pay sports channels would use a personalised channel and 77% would be more likely to renew their subscription if they were offered this service, according to a survey of 1,000 people (Sky Sports and BT Sport subscribers) in the UK market carried out by the Australian firm Quantum Market Research in November 2019 and published in January 2020.
