Karl Hopfner was elected president of FC Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) for a term running until 2016, at a special meeting of the general assembly at Audi Dome Munich (GER) on 02/05/2014. The new club president raked in 99.6% of the votes of the 1593 members present (there were 5 votes against and one abstention).

He had served as interim president since 14/03/2014, due to the resignation of Uli Hoeness, who was sentenced to three and a half years in jail for tax evasion. Hoeness, who was present at the meeting, does not rule out a return to the club once he has served his sentence.

A new executive committee for the Bavarian club is also in place. In addition to Hopfer as president, there will be Rudolf Schels as senior vice president and Dieter Mayer as deputy vice president.

  • "Thank you for this huge show of faith. I will exercise this office with passion and a big heart, just as I have over 31 years in a wide variety of positions. I’m proud to be part of the Bayern family and will always work for the well-being of FC Bayern München," said Hopfner at his inauguration on 02/05/2014.
