Spain: women's first and second divisions considered "professionalised competitions" by the RFEF

The first two Spanish women's football divisions, Primera Iberdrola and Reto Iberdrola, now have the status of "professionalised competitions," announced the Spanish Federation on 10/06/2020. This status, recognised only internally by the RFEF, does not endow these competitions with the status of "professional championships" which can only be issued in Spain by the CSD.

"Until now, these competitions were considered amateur football, but the RFEF has presented an amendment to its statutes, approved by the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD, Spanish High Council for Sports), which allows the qualification of "professional competitions" to be established for those that meet the material, economic, professional and working conditions that make this status appropriate," said the Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol.

A "professionalised committee", in which the clubs of the first two women's divisions are invited to be part of, will be set up by the Spanish Federation to manage the women's championships.
