Ligue 1: staying at 20 clubs (versus 22) voted unanimously by the LFP board of directors

"23 votes in favor and 2 abstentions: the LFP board of directors, on a proposal from the Bureau of the League, votes unanimously for a resolution proposed to the General Assembly to maintain the format of Ligue 1 at 20 clubs for the 2020-21 season," announced the French Professional Football League on 19/06/2020.

"This resolution was voted on after an in-depth examination of the challenges of a Ligue 1 at 20, 21 or 22 clubs on the 2020-21 competition calendar, and after having obtained the opinion of the joint committee of the FFF - LFP, and consequences on the players' health. This examination also looked at the financial impacts, the distribution of audiovisual rights, as well as the contractual repercussions with Ligue 1 broadcasters," explained the Ligue.

"In accordance with the order of the French Council of State of 09/06/2020 and on the proposal of the LFP Bureau on 19/06/2020, the board of directors will convene a General Assembly of the League on Tuesday 23/06/2020, to examine this resolution and decide on the format of Ligue 1 for the 2020-21 season," added the League.
