Women's World Cup 2023: FIFA awards the hosting of the competition to Australia and New Zealand

With 22 out of the 35 votes cast, the Women's World Cup 2023 will be staged in Australia and New Zealand, following a vote by the FIFA Council who met via videoconference, the result of which was announced by Gianni Infantino, president of the International Federation, on 25/06/2020.

Colombia, the only other candidate for the hosting of the competition, received 13 votes, including from Noël Le Graët, president of the FFF and member of the FIFA Council, and Aleksander Ceferin, UEFA president and FIFA vice-president (see details of the votes below).

"Following on from the astounding success of the Women's World Cup 2019 in France and the subsequent unanimous decision by the FIFA Council, the Women's World Cup 2023 will be the first edition to feature 32 teams and it will also be the first to be hosted by Australia and New Zealand and across two confederations (AFC and OFC)," said FIFA (Australia has been part of the Asian Confederation since 2006).
