France: L'Équipe channel acquires TV rights to the Spanish Cup and Super Cup (2020-2022)

The L'Équipe channel has acquired the exclusive broadcasting rights, in France, to the Spanish Cup and Spanish Super Cup for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, as well as for the final of the 2019-20 edition, Athletic Club - Real Sociedad (date is not yet fixed), announced the the free-TV channel on 26/06/2020. About twenty games will be broadcast each season, the channel said.

The 2021 and 2022 editions of the Spanish Super Cup will be contested in Saudi Arabia, like that of January 2020. The RFEF has changed the format of the competition in which four teams participate (champion and vice-champion of Spain, winner and finalist of the Spanish Cup) since this year.

The choice of the Spanish Football Federation to contest the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia had been criticized by Yousef Al-Obaidly, managing director of beIN Media Group, by Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, and by the Spanish public audiovisual group RTVE (who boycotted the tender for TV rights in Spain), in November 2019.
