USA: Amazon obtains naming rights to Seattle's future stadium the "Climate Pledge Arena"

Amazon has obtained from Oak View Group the naming rights for a future 18,100-seat stadium (17,100 for Hockey games) in Seattle (Washington State, USA), which will host the city's NHL franchise and the Seattle Storm (WNBA), according to the American e-commerce group on 25/06/2020. Rather than being named the "Amazon Arena", it will be known as the "Climate Pledge Arena".

The arena, financed by private investment, is expected to cost $1bn (€890m) and is scheduled to open in the summer of 2021. "With significant investment from Amazon and Oak View Group, the venue is expected to be the first net zero carbon certified arena in the world (see details below) and set a new sustainability bar for the sports and events industry," explained Amazon.

"We've secured naming rights to the historic arena previously known as KeyArena. Instead of naming it after Amazon, we're calling it Climate Pledge Arena as a regular reminder of the importance of fighting climate change," said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.
