Piracy: LaLiga welcomes the Danish Supreme Court's ruling against pirate websites

The Danish Supreme Court has ruled that the website Rojadirecta is illegal and should be blocked by Danish internet service providers, according to LaLiga, on 06/07/2020. The Spanish company running Rojadirecta, Puerto 80 Projects SLU, argued that the platform was not illegal because legal content was also available; the Supreme Court ruled that a service dedicated to illegal activities is illegal regardless of the presence of legal content, explained LaLiga.

"Practically, this means that there is now access to block services that offer illegal TV and live sports. This is a hugely important development, especially for broadcasters who at great expense pays for exclusive rights to sports content," said Maria Fredenslund, director of the Danish Rights Alliance

"When the case was brought to trial in 2018, Rojadirecta had at least 19,000 Danish visitors in just one month, allowing a large number of users to access live sports matches, including matches in the Spanish first division for which LaLiga holds the rights," said the Spanish league.
