USA: CBS recovers European Cup TV rights that were terminated by Turner (press)

The American audiovisual group CBS has acquired the rights to broadcast the European football cups in English in the United States for the end of the 2018-2021 cycle (end of the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons), according to US media reports on 09/07/2020.

The North American audiovisual group Turner Sports, rights holder for the 2018-2021 cycle, terminated its contract with UEFA in June 2020. Turner was paying approximately $60m (€53m) per year over this cycle, while the Spanish-language group Univision is paying approximately $40m (€35m) per season over the same period for the Spanish-language rights.

CBS acquired the rights to the European Cups for the 2021-2024 cycle on 09/11/2019. CBS and Univision will spend a total of between $140m and $150m for this future cycle, an increase of 40-50% over the current cycle.
