CAS: Manchester City's exclusion from the European Cups lifted and fine reduced to €10m

The exclusion of Manchester City FC (Premier League) from the European Cups "should be set aside and Manchester City shall pay a fine of €10m to UEFA," announced the Court of Arbitration for Sport in its ruling on the dispute between the English club and UEFA on 13/07/2020 (document available to download).

The case concerned an appeal lodged by Manchester City against the decision of the Adjudicatory Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body on 14/02/2020, in which Manchester City had been excluded from the European Cups for the next two seasons (2020-21 and 2021-22) and fined €30m for breaching UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations.

"Manchester City FC did not disguise equity funding as sponsorship contributions but did fail to cooperate with the UEFA authorities," said the body based in Lausanne (SUI) to explain both the lowering of sanctions and the retention of a fine.
