Wimbledon: €11.1m in prize money distributed to players despite the cancellation of the 2020 edition

The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) will distribute a total prize money of £10m (€11.1m) to players who would have participated in the 2020 edition of Wimbledon, according to the organiser of the Grand Slam Tournament on 10/07/2020.

The Wimbledon Tournament, originally scheduled from 29/06 to 12/07/2020, has been cancelled due to the health crisis linked to the Covid-19 pandemic on 01/04/2020, however this exceptional scenario is covered by insurance.

"We are now in a position to allocate prize money to the 620 players whose world ranking would have enabled them to gain entry into The Championships 2020 by direct acceptance into the Main Draw or Qualifying event. From an agreed total of £10m, the AELTC will distribute prize money in lieu of The Championships 2020 with regard for the circumstances of this year and in the spirit of the AELTC's prize money distribution in recent years," explained the AELTC.

The 224 players scheduled to play in the qualifiers will each receive £12,500 (€13,938). The 256 players in the main men's and women's singles draw will each receive £25,000…
