The Washington Redskins (NFL) franchise has confirmed that it will change their nickname and logo, on 13/07/2020. This announcement follows repeated statements from the sponsors of the franchise (Nike, Pepsi or Fedex), in particular in the context of the "Black Lives Matter" movement, to change the identity of the club.

The name "Redskins" refers to the American Indians in a derogatory manner, people victims of massacres and deportations since the arrival of the colonists on the North American territory.

"On 03/07/2020, we announced the commencement of a thorough review of the team's name. That review has begun in earnest. As part of this process, we want to keep our sponsors, fans and community apprised of our thinking as we go forward. Today (13/07/2020), we are announcing we will be retiring the Redskins name and logo upon completion of this review," said the club.
